Book Blogger Hop July 16-19

Sigh.  Summer is slipping away.  Can you believe we're halfway through July?  There is this consolation:  it is time for another Book Blogger Hop, sponsored by Jennifer at Crazy for Books.  Get thee hence!  Read the instructions!  Hop! Drop your visiting card in the silver plate provided.  Or just leave a comment.

Here is a new twist on the hop (cue Chubby Checkers):  Jennifer has a question for us each Friday.  Last week it was really interesting reading the posts to find out everyone's favorite writers.  It turns out book bloggers are a greedy bunch, and almost no one could pick just one.  That made it even more fun to read the posts that justified the long, long lists most people had (guilty).  This week the question is, "What book can you not wait to get your hands on?"  My answer is:

Exit the Actress by Priya Parmar
Touchstone
February 11, 1011

You might recognize Priya from her blog The Plum Bean Project.  Her writing is beautiful, and a kind, gentle spirit infuses her posts.  Her novel, a historical fiction set in Restoration England, is about Nell Gwyn an actress who became the mistress of Charles II.  I've been following the progress of the novel from manuscript to almost-published book as Priya wrote about each step in her blog.  Her current post shows the book cover (with blurb from Philippa Gregory); the book is available for pre-order on Amazon now.  So I'm looking forward to February, when I will finally get my hands on Priya's novel.

In the meantime, I'm finishing Jonathan Lethem's Chronic CityDon Quixote awaits.  Also on my TBR shelf:  Wolf Hall and several others.  I promised myself I would read at least one novel by Anthony Trollope this summer--The Prime Minister is next in line.

If you are here on the hop, be sure and leave a comment so I can return the visit.  Cheers.

Popping in to drop my "card" in the silver salver, one corner turned down to reveal the word "Felicitations." Seriously, though, I love your blog even when its not book blogger hop day. I really can't wait to read Priya's book as well. I'm also waiting the the next Thursday Next book which won't be out until March 2011 (I was mistaken to believe it was this month). Well, I'm hopping off to visit another blog. Be back soon.

Dropping in from the hop to say hello.

That book does look like an interesting one -- I don't know much about Restoration England.

Was excited to hear about Priya's progress. WOW!

Will go to her website to learn more about Nell and Charles.

Reading The King's Mistress and haven't stopped. Really enjoying.

Hey you ate all the chips last time! Serving lemonade to beat the heat... so this time you had better bring desserts. We're going to watch the Smackdown between Alice and Phillipa for Edward's devotion in King's Mistress...

Personally can't see why she would like Edward... He's old enough to be her GRANDFATHER! OH well... I guess his title and charm are the primary source of attraction...

What do you think?

I like to follow writer’s blogs as I feel I learn from each one. I have a book of Communion devotionals at the printers which I authored, although I don’t consider myself an accomplished writer. I am a follower on your blog and invite you to follow mine as well…and please leave a comment when and if you visit.
