"She is too fond of books and it has turned her brain." Louisa May Alcott
I'm just going through one of those phases when all a really want to do it read, one book after another. I'm very conscious that I'm running out of time; my summer break is almost over, and when school starts up again I just won't have much time for reading for pleasure.
Now that I've finished my Advanced Writing Institute, I'm just reading book after book. Some of the books I'm reading are review copies, and some are from my own collection. And yes, I have bought more books this summer (arrgh!). This past week I read four books in seven days, This is Paradise, Late Lights, The Known World, and Kindred (by Octavia Butler). I'm hoping to get a review up for Kindred; I will definitely read more of Octavia Butler's books. I'm reading Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures right now, and enjoying it very much (so much that I'm keeping this post short so I can get back to it). There are two weeks left before I return to work, and three weeks before I step back into the classroom (count on about a month of crazy, frenzied activity then, with virtually no down time). How many more books can I squeeze in?
That is the life of a bibliophile! One thing I will definitely do when school starts: share with my students the list of books I read this summer. Also: book talks on some of my favorites. Let's hope I can create some more book-obsessed bibliophiles this year!
