The Classics Club Readathon Begins....
What better way to start off a new year? Today I'm participating in The Classics Club's first ever Reathathon. My goals for today are simple: to read as much classic literature as possible!
Where am I reading? I started out at the local gym....I don't read while I'm working out, but my husband's workout takes about twice as long as mine does, so I always read while I wait for him. We got to the gym at 8:30 this morning, and left after 11:00....Now I'm cozily curled up on my bed with my book.
Snacks and Beverages? Right now I have a cup of coffee. Since I worked out for almost an hour this morning, I don't think I want to completely negate the effects of the workout with snacks, but we do have the enormous over-priced box of popcorn we bought from the local Boy Scout troop, if I really have to snack. Also, there are grits.
Since the classics are meant to be savored, I don't have any ambitions of racing through a lot of pages today.
What am I reading? I'm reading The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy: I have the Everyman's Library edition with all three books in one volume. I just started All the Pretty Horses this morning.
Thanks to the folks at The Classics Club for hosting this readathon!

I haven't read any Cormac McCarthy yet, but my son loves his books. Enjoy your reading! :)
I have no desire to gallop either. A real pleasure though to sit in the sun with nothing else to do except read. Have a lovely reading day!
Happy Reading!
Enjoy the readathon :)
It's a lovely way to spend the day - reading and blogging :-)
Happy reading from Sydney Australia

Awesome choice for your reading today! McCarthy is by far and away my favorite modern American author, and The Border Trilogy is some of his very best--heartbreakingly good stuff! Have a great readathon! Cheers! Chris
@joon*ann-thanks-hope you enjoy Madame Bovary...that's a great choice too!
@Cat-hope you enjoyed your slow reading!
@Jennifer-thanks, happy reading to you too!
@Sam-thanks-hope you have a good reading day too!
@Brona Joy-Happy Reading over there on the other side of the world!
@Christopher-All the Pretty Horses is every bit as good as I'd hoped. I've already read Blood Meridian, and I'm not sure anything can top the writing in that novel, but so far All the Pretty Horses is just as good.
No racing for me, either, but I am making some good progress.
Haven't read McCarthy. Will have to check it out. I'm in the midst of Moby Dick right now and loving it.
I really wanted to do this but I just didn't think I could make it work with the things I needed to get done. An utter lack of focus didn't help either - I only read about 50 pages yesterday. Hope you did better!
hope it went well ,all the best stu
I read All the Pretty Horses out loud to my husband as we went on a long road trip from California to Colorado many years ago. I can't think of that book without visualizing the desolate Utah highway we were on for hours without seeing much of anything except an occasional dead deer on the side of the road. Anyway, good book. Hope you liked it.
@vikk--Moby Dick is a great choice for a readathon!
@Lisa-I ended up finishing All the Pretty Horses, so it was a good readathon for me.
@LisaMM-that desolate drive sounds like the perfect setting for reading McCarthy aloud. Especially the dead deer on the side of the road! I ended up really loving the book. Those sentences! No commas!
