Sunday Coffee: Thankfully Reading Wrap-Up

How sad that this weekend has to end! Thankfully Reading (hosted by Jenn at Jenn's Bookshelves) was a very relaxing readathon-and I felt really good about getting Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian finished. Blood Meridian was absolutely brilliant, on a scale with Melville's Moby Dick or Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury (Blood Meridian even had a mentally disabled character, like Faulkner's Benjy). This book will be living in my mind for some time. I can't imagine lightly picking up another novel after this. So I'll be spending the rest of my reading hours tonight reading Gwenolyn Brooks, who I think is not as well-known or widely-read as she should be. I have her Selected Poems on hand, and that is just the right way to finish off this readathon.

Today is my birthday, and I found out that I share a birthday with Bruce Lee, Jimi Hendrix, James Agee, Marilyn Hacker, and Bill Nye (the science guy). How cool is that?

Tomorrow I'll be starting the Wolf Hall Readalong, hosted by Natalie of Coffee and a Book Chick and Nicole of Linus's Blanket.

I hope you all had a restful, restorative Thanksgiving weekend. What will you be reading as November turns to December?

Happy birthday, Lisa! I'm going to have to read "Blood Meridian" if you can compare it in quality to Faulkner. I've steered clear of McCartney because of the darkness of his writing previously.

Happy belated birthday. I've been wanting to read Wolf Hall for a while, eyeing it at the bookstore. Maybe I'll pick it up and read-along.
