Sunday Coffee The Cruelest Month

Where did April go? It cruelly disappeared! This month I read quite a few short stories--why didn't I think of this earlier? I've read short stories by James Baldwin, Andre Dubus, Mary Lavin, Carol Bly, Donald Ray Pollock, Sherman Alexie, and Gina Berriault. It's relatively easy to read a story in the mornings before work, or as I am eating my dinner in the evening.

This month I read the wonderful, entrancing A Seahorse Year by Stacey D"Erasmo. I'm hopelessly behind on reviews, but I would love to write some sort of post about D'Erasmo's finely imagined novel. Now I'm deep in The Way We Live Now by the inimitable Anthony Trollope. It will be nose-to-the-grindstone between now and mid-June at work--Trollope will be my respite.

Stories by Andre Dubus! I'll have to search for some. I've loved his novels.

Summer's coming and the time is nigh to gather your book piles. As my high school English teacher Mr. Crockett told us, "Why, yes, you need a pile in each room in your house."
