Addendum

I have another post percolating (I know that really dates me--how many of you know about coffee percolators?) in my brain, but I have to do a short addendum. The high school here on paradise island had their graduation tonight, and they made the decision to hold it indoors because there was a forecast of rain. So what happened? No rain, bunches of people crammed into the gym, more bunches of people in the auditorium watching a video feed that cut out at intervals, and disappointment all around. Sigh. I can't help wondering whether our drenching last night scared the other school into deciding not to risk the great outdoors? Of course, our two schools are rivals; I used to teach at the school on the island (where I still live) which became overcrowded, so they built a big new school on the mainland six years ago. When the new school was built, the faulty and the student body were split, and I went to the new school, but I still have some loyalty to the old school.

One thing I do know for sure is that Maybelline waterproof mascara really is waterproof, and that the cheesy graduation gowns we wore are decidedly not waterproof. And that it is a little nerve-wracking to sit on a little chair in the middle of a football field and watch lightning flashing all around you.
