The Classics Spin #4

Progress is slow on my Classics Club List. I have 85 books on my list, and I've only read six so far. Still, I've read six! This is the first time I've participated in the Classics Club Spin....I'm going to list twenty books from my list that I haven't read yet. I will have to read one of the books on the list by January 1st--a randomly chosen number (to be announced on Monday, November 18th) will determine which book on the list below will be the one I read in November/December.

Here's my list of twenty books for the Classics Club Spin #4:
1. Daniel Deronda by George Eliot
2. A Passage to India by E.M. Forster
3. Swann's Way by Marcel Proust
4. An Autobiography by Anthony Trollope
5. Another Country by James Baldwin
6. Speak, Memory by Vladimir Nabokov
7. Stoner by John Williams
8. Hard Times by Charles Dickens
9. The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf
10. Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
11. A Rage in Harlem by Chester Himes
12. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
13. Acts of Worship by Yukio Mishima
14. The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
15. Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry
16. Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman
17. Corregidora by Gayle Jones
18. Three Lives by Gertrude Stein
19. He Knew He Was Right by Anthony Trollope
20. Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak

He Knew He Was Right is one of my favorite Trollopes, and I thought his Autobiography was fascinating - it inspired me to try Thackeray's books. I haven't read many of the other authors on your list - more to explore. I hope you get a good spin.

I had never heard of Yukio Mishima until recently...and now you're the 3rd of 4th blogger in a short period of time to mention him.
Curious.

Good luck with this spin.

I haven't read either of those Trollopes, but he's one of my favorites. I've also heard great things about Stoner. It's not on my Classics Club list but I do have an unread copy, I hope to get to it soon.

Hard Times was the first Dickens novel I read, and it convinced me to then go on and take a Dickens seminar course, so allow me to root for that as your winner. It's not my favorite Dickens, but it's definitely an enjoyable read.

@Lisa-I am absolutely devoted to Trollope! Can't wait to read He Knew He Was Right. I have already read the Palliser and Barsetshire series, and The Way We Live Now...

@Brona Joy-There was a feature film made about Mishima (a long time ago) but I still haven't read any of his novels--I am very curious to see what they will be like.

@Karen K-Yes, lots of love for Trollope! And Stoner is one that has been on my TBR list for a while...

@Jenna-Our Mutual Friend is definitely my favorite Dickens novel. I do feel I have a gap not having read Hard Times yet...

@mybookstrings-I really love the movie version of Dr. Zhivago, so it will be interesting to see how I like the novel.

The Classics Club Spin #4 has announced the number for this spin, and it is 10. That means I am reading Invisible Man! I will keep you all posted :)

I'm behind on my Classics Club list myself - my spin was Dubliners. Looking forward to hearing what you think of Invisible Man!

@Kerry-Dubliners is a good one....and not so terribly long. There are some stories in Dubliners that will just stay with me forever.

I love the Classic Club so much, and the Spin is a good opportunity to remind myself to stay on track!
