Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme created by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I just can't wait for February.  I wish I didn't have to wait for February. I would give my eye teeth (anyone want them?) to read this right now:
Townie:  A Memoir has gotten incredible pre-publication buzz.  I wish I knew someone at W.W. Norton.  Hey, Norton, can you hear me?  Andre Dubus III is the son of acclaimed short story writer Andre Dubus.  The son, Andre Dubus III, grew up with his divorced mother, who was constantly exhausted from working and raising children alone (I can relate to that).  On Sundays the younger Dubus was exposed to a completely different world when he visited his writer father.  I have read and loved the work of both writers, and I know the older Dubus drew on his own life in stories such as "A Father's Story."  I can't tell you how much I want to read this book right now:  it is described as riveting, profound, and visceral.

Another February title I can't wait to get my hands on is this one:
Exit the Actress:  A Novel by Priya Parmar.  I have to admit my weakness for good, well-written and researched historical fiction.  This novel tells the story of Nell Gwyn, a young woman in restoration London who rose from orange-seller, to actress, to mistress of Charles II.  I've been following the pre-publication progress of Exit the Actress for months here:  The Plum Bean Project - Priya Parmar's delightful blog.

Thanks, Breaking the Spine, for letting me tell the world how ardently I await the publication of these two books!

The two Andre Dubuses are always authors that I enjoy but for some reason never think to read. Thanks for the reminder! I'll look for it. Also, I've never heard of this meme before. A new way to procrastinate on Wednesdays? Yes please!

I'd have to break out of my reading rut to be brave enough to try one of these.
