On My Doorstep
The days are long right now, as the school year wraps up. My Poetry Club had their last meeting today, and we ate, talked, and laughed. Some of my young poets are graduating, but I have some wonderful students who will be coming back again next year. They are full of youth and enthusiasm, vigor, and beauty, and because they are young, they don't even know how much life they have. I left school late, it was nearly five, and then got an iced coffee and stopped to pick up groceries. I was only a mile from home when a cloud right over my car just opened up, but there was sunshine all around. I love it when you finish all of your errands and are safely in your car and then the rain falls.
So I walked in the door and found that a new book had arrived--what a treat. Well, I did order it! I'm reading Jude Morgan's Passion, and today Charlotte and Emily: A Novel of the Brontes by the same author arrived. I also have The Taste of Sorrow on order; I intend to fully indulge my Bronte obsession.
That's it for tonight; I spent hours working on grades, and I am thoroughly sick of numbers right now. While other lucky bloggers are in New York at the BEA, I will be grading finals and wishing I were there. Sob.
Oh well, I live on an island. I can go to the beach every day (theoretically). And next year, maybe, I will be at the BEA. Feel free to leave comments telling me all about the delicious things I'm missing....
