Book Blogger Hop October 15-18

October Exhaustion.  The classroom has sprouted paperwork piles like manila-colored fungi.  Grades for the first quarter loom over my weekend.  And yet I hop...

Thanks to Jennifer at Crazy for Books I can have a virtual social life, visiting other book bloggers over the weekend (in between sipping coffee, reading, and grading papers).

This weekend's question is:  do you always finish every book?  Heck, no.  I don't have time for bad books--they actually make me mad!  I want to read a book I can love, or at least like very much.  Therefore, I have little patience for mediocrity.  I always begin reading with the highest hopes and a kind and forgiving spirit.  But I will give up on a book that fails to deliver.  This is especially true if the book is poorly written.

If you are hopping by on the book blogger hop leave me a comment and I will return your visit.  Perhaps you are a more gentle reader?  I would rather reread a great book (such as a classic) than tolerate a bad book.  I will read for pure entertainment on occasion, so I'm not being elitist--I just like a well-written book that doesn't insult my intelligence or my sensibility.

you and I are on the same brainwave. Life is too short for crappy books!

sometimes it's just not the book I want to read at that moment, and I'll pick it up a week later and love it. . . and sometimes it's just a peice of crap.

if it is a peice of crap, and i do manage to finish it, i'll write a review warning people about it. ;)

Here on the Hop! I also feel like there's way too little time to spend more than necessary reading something I don't like(especially as I've hit middle age and time seems to go by so much quicker than it used).

Time for 1st quarter grades already? fall is going by too quickly! I almost always finish a book once I've begun, but that's not a hard and fast rule.

I'm a big WOOZ! I read it to the end even though I begrudge the writer for putting me in this misery... I keep hoping that I will be proven wrong and then... arghhhh wooz I am again!

Good for you to give up on books you're not enjoying! I so wish I could make myself do the same.

Not taking part in the "hop", but wanted to drop by and say "hi". I thought you might be interested in getting some books for your class. I'm hosting a YA Giveaway at my blog. Check it out if you're interested!

I agree with you about scratching books you're not enjoying. I hate to do it, but sometimes I have to put a book down. I don't like wasting time on a book I don't like. Thankfully I'm a picky reader, so this rarely happens to me.
Hope you have a great weekend and get to have some fun time to yourself around all the paper grading!

I'm glad to hear you say this. So many people are answering with "Well, I feel I owe it to the author to finish..." but honestly, I feel they owe it to us to write capably. It is their chosen profession after all. I expect people to expect good work from me in my chosen field... and I wouldn't expect them to just accept my stuff because they feel obligated to me.

I try not to give up but if it's for a review I do my best...

You are a strong cookie and I agree I should stop wasting my time.

New resolution to start.
